Purpose and the Library’s Mission

Libraries make it possible for citizens to have access to the information they need to make informed decisions. As a member of the Illinois library community, the Oregon Public Library District is committed to networking and maximizing the use of the resources of all types of libraries and information sources. Every library user benefits from expanded access to information beyond the four walls of any single library building. The library extends access to information by offering public internet access, public computer, online research databases and printing. The Oregon Public Library urges library patrons to be informed users and carefully evaluate information obtained via the Internet.

Terms of Use

• The Library cannot guarantee the accuracy of information on the Internet.

• The Library does not filter content on public access computers, including the Children’s computers.

• The Library does not monitor and has no control over information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. The Library expressly disclaims any liability or responsibility arising from access to or use of information obtained through its electronic information systems, or any consequences thereof.

• The Library cannot guarantee the privacy of data or computer usage.

• Patrons assume responsibility for their personal devices.

• The Library, its staff and trustees are not responsible for damages, indirect or direct, arising from any library patron’s use of Internet information resources.

• The Library’s Behavior Code applies to computer and Internet use.

• Use of library computers for illegal activity or in any manner in violation of state or federal law is prohibited and will result in loss of library computer access privileges.

• Display of sexually explicit graphics or otherwise offensive material is inappropriate for an open public environment and is prohibited.

• Patrons accept financial responsibility for any damage they cause to library property.

• Users who attempt to bypass security programs or who attempt to save data to the computer’s hard drive or network server will no longer be permitted to use the Library’s computes.

Requirements for Use:

• Users must have a current library or guest pass to use the computers.

• Sessions have time limits, which may be extended if no one else is waiting.

• Public Access Computers in the Children’s Area are to be used only by children or adults who are accompanying a child.

• Parents are expected to monitor and supervise their children’s use of the Internet. The Library’s staff is not in a position to monitor or supervise children’s use.
