The Art of Oregon – Influence of the Eagle’s Nest Art Colony and Rediscovered Collection They Left Behind Research for the is book in local archives and from around the country confirmed a much deeper, interrelated history than appeared on the surface. The book grew into a broader 180 page survey of art and its influence in this community. Now we believe it has documented the uniqueness of Oregon that has been overlooked and undervalued. This book has been totally a volunteer effort to support and conserve the Eagle’s Nest Art Gallery of the Oregon Public Library and perpetuate Lorado Taft’s goal of “art to the community”. Donations are necessary because publishing an art history book like The Art of Oregon is very costly. Our goal is to make this book affordable to the widest audience possible at the price of $40 per book. Publishing cost of a single volume is nearly double this price. Please contribute to this historic project for the Oregon Community. For more information, please contact the Oregon Public Library.
SPRING BREAK ACTIVITIES Not sure what to do during Spring Break? We have a few things you might want to try. Scavenger Hunt- March 28- April 1(all week), grades K-8th grade. Pick up your grade appropriate Scavenger Hunt Guide and discover the Library. Prizes awarded April 4 for top hunters. There will be an file folder on a clipboard with the different age groups in my box. I’ll also put a bag of pencils there as well. Their writing has to be legible, so if parents need to help write for the younger ones that is fine. Drop-In Crafts-Tuesday, March 29, 1-4 pm for grades K-6th grade. Dabble in the crafts with picture frames, sculptures, and other creative endeavors. I’ll be here for this…and the kids can just stop in. I’ll have tables set up in the gallery with a variety of crafts to try. Movie-Friday April 1, 1 pm- Feature presentation is The Peanuts Movie.
The renovation process continues here at OPLD! If you have driven by in the last few weeks you surely noticed all of the activity. Construction of the elevator enclosure has begun and should be completed in the next couple of weeks. We are nearly finished with the two new ADA compliant restrooms in the lower level, electric updates are nearly completed and we have removed two walls in the lower level as well. Construction on the new stairwell is set to begin in the next couple of weeks as well. It has been a long process to get to this point and it will be worth it in the end. We appreciate your patience in this process.
